It starts with a survey, not a sales visit
Everything begins with a site survey. We measure the space, agree the best position for the lift — usually where the layout of the two floors lines up — and confirm exactly what the property needs. From that you receive a written, no-obligation quotation with no guesswork. Because we install a single, refined lift system, the survey is done by people who know precisely what will and will not work in your property, so the plan you approve is the plan that happens.
How long does installation take?
A typical OnLevel platform lift is installed in three to five working days. That is possible because the lift arrives factory-built and largely pre-assembled: there is no shaft to construct, no machine room to build and no deep excavation. Compare that with a conventional passenger lift, where masonry, a deep pit and a plant room can mean several weeks on site. For a through-floor lift in a home, the timescale is the same — a few days, not a few weeks.
| Stage | What happens | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Survey | Measure up, agree position, quote | A single visit |
| Manufacture | Lift built to your specification | Lead time before install |
| Site preparation | 150mm recess formed, power prepared | Part of the install week |
| Installation | Lift bolted together, no hot works | 3–5 days |
| Commissioning | Test, LOLER exam, finish surround, handover | Final day |
How much mess and disruption should you expect?
Much less than a downstairs conversion or a conventional lift. Forming the 150mm recess and the ceiling aperture is the most significant work, and it is contained and tidy. Because the lift assembles by bolting together, there is no welding, no hot works and no crane — which means no fire risk, no fumes and no heavy plant blocking your drive. Our engineers protect the working area, clear up as they go, and finish the surround to match your décor so the lift looks like part of the room, not an afterthought.
Who carries out the work?
Every Base OnLevel installation is carried out by our own engineers — we do not subcontract the work to third parties. The business is SafeContractor accredited (membership CN8516), and every lift is installed and commissioned to EN 81-41 in support of Part M and BS 8300:2018. Having one accredited team who know the OnLevel system inside out is what keeps installations quick, clean and right first time.
Commissioning, handover and aftercare
The job is not finished when the lift moves — it is finished when it is proven safe and you know how to use it. We commission and test the lift, carry out its LOLER examination, and hand over the documentation pack. We show you how the lift works, including the battery lowering that operates in a power cut, and arrange ongoing servicing so it stays reliable and in warranty. Ask us what your installation would involve.
